There are many reasons why children suffer from back pain. According to studies, before the age of 15, the 50.9 percent of boys and 69.3 percent of girls have ever suffered from back pain. To avoid back pain, the ideal is to prevent it as soon as possible, from the earliest age, educating our children in proper habits for the health of the back.

Back pain is usually of unknown origin. It appears by a neurological mechanism that causes pain, inflammation and muscle contracture. In some cases, a massage with an anti-inflammatory cream can give good results, but other times it is necessary to resort to a medical diagnosis, and in rare cases to deeper tests such as radiology, MRI and other explorations.

Back pain can be caused by a bad position in the chair at school, at home, when eating or studying; They can arise from being poorly supported on the table or at the school desk; due to the excessive weight of the books in the backpacks; due to the lack of physical exercise that strengthen the back as well as the whole body, and also very sedentary habits such as watching too much television or lying down for a long time instead of sitting or standing.

Injuries from a blow or fall also tend to bother the back. Childhood obesity can also affect children's spines.

In the case of back problems, the best therapy is prevention. The practice of physical exercise during childhood is the most important measure for prevent back pain in the futureas they can become chronic over time.

For this reason the Collegiate Medical Organization (OMC) and the Kovacs Foundation propose to adopt preventive measures and educate children at an early age in proper habits for the health of the back. They recommend that parents accustom their children to exercising at least twice a week, from an early age, so that this practice is consolidated during adolescence and adulthood.

1. Sport. Physical exercise helps the development of strong and resistant muscles in the back, and allows the spine to form properly, without discomfort. All exercises must be developed under the supervision of a specialist, and it is advisable to avoid the practice of highly competitive sports that can damage the back.

2. Weight. The acquisition of good habits when taking the teachers observe the postures and try to correct them both when standing and sitting. It is best that they sit as far back as possible, with their backs straight and their elbows resting on the desk.
